The A-side goes straight for the jugular, pumping out a pressurized bass swirl as muffled percs and rhythmic accents strongly recall Gui Boratto in the vein of his seminal track 'Arquipélago'. 'Tirant Lo Blanc' relies on a brass-heavy alloy of deep techno and revisited carnival themes, heaving 4/4 mechanics out the window and into the streets as the red-hot trumpets and martial pulse of the fanfare prepare to smash in the doors of clubland wide open.</xhtml:div>

<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Following a first vinyl appearance on You And Your Hippie Friends’ “A Very Nice Combinado Volume Dos” (YAYHF 03) earlier this year, Mexican producer PAULOR aka Paulo Rodriguez gets ready for his first solo outing with Hippie Dance’s sister label.

Curated by Rebolledo, the imprint has established an impressive talent pool within only three releases, including both veteran and upcoming talent such as Sebastien Bouchet, El Güero, Zombies In Miami, Beyou, Roman Flügel and more. It’s a testament to the label’s chiselled vision that an idiosyncratic and diverse group such as this is able to sustain individual approaches to electronic music while weaving a coherent sonic tapestry from all its ingredients, the whole quite organically being more than the sum of its parts.

Now, it’s up to PAULOR to flesh out his own sound cosmos on You And Your Hippie Dance’s latest 12” drop, presenting a concoction of salt-caked beats, riffing guitars and flexing bass that evokes a sense for space and untouched, psychedelic landscapes not unlike Rebolledo’s very own desert funk vignettes. After “La Race” (his contribution to “A Very Nice Combinado Volume Dos”) and the “Discótico Desértico” remix for Rebolledo’s “Mondo Re-Alterado” (HIPPIE DANCE 10 LP) started making the rounds in tastemaker DJ sets, PAULOR caught a major moment of inspiration while performing at Monterrey’s TOPAZDeluxe - which lead to the husky, hypnotic cut PAULOR’S BLUES, pièce de résistance and headstone in one, as it set the scene and also birthed enough follow-up tracks to naturally grow into a cohesive, full-blown EP.

From echo-drenched, beatless opener NEBLINA to the percussion-infused intrigue of DELIRIO EN CARRETERA, the athletic pop minimalism of AMIGOS or the slow burn of brooding mystery shuffle LUCES CALLING, PAULOR creates a unique, atmospheric sound panorama that excites minds and bodies alike. Adorned with a starry night sky, the record’s cover artwork couldn’t be more fitting – it’s a dominant musical vista in PAULOR’s work, whose vantage point is not necessarily a specific place (although all tracks were recorded in Xalapa), but a feeling of exquisite duality: the feeling of being lost between the stars, lonely and connected at the same time, a speck of dust and the center of the universe.</xhtml:div>

<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Succeeding a recent run of much-acclaimed outings by stand-out artists such as Laurent Garnier (KOM EX 95), Kölsch (KOM EX 97 &amp; 93) or Christian Nielsen &amp; Locked Groove (KOM EX 96), our SPEICHER series hits the magical number 100 with its latest instalment, an action-packed double 12” pack that includes brand new belters by Kompakt trailblazers MICHAEL MAYER, JÖRG BURGER, JÜRGEN PAAPE and VOIGT &amp; VOIGT.

The Speicher series actually has two birth dates: a first one in 1999, when a “Kompakt For Cisco” 12” special edition inadvertently created a new sub label with the rather pragmatically titled Kompakt Extra 001. Two years later, a Kompakt 12” sampler called “Speicher 1” introduced the name of the series that we know today – and a blueprint for idiosyncratic, powerful techno with clear dance floor ambitions.

MICHAEL MAYER was featured on both of these parent releases and also co-helmed the iconic Speicher 2 vinyl from 2002 (which brought us two essential Kompakt cuts with his own “Pride Is Weaker Than Love” and Reinhard Voigt’s “Supertiel”) – more than enough reasons to have him start off the celebratory 100th Speicher with a bang: LOUT sees Kompakt’s label head engage in bold, synth-laden prime time techno and the kind of epic noise break that informed his earliest output as a producer and DJ. Kompakt stalwart JÖRG BURGER is another usual suspect when it comes to label classics, and his Speicher releases as The Modernist (KOM EX 28) or Burger Industries (KOM EX 16) mark early milestones in the series. His BEATMESSE PT.1 &amp; 2 focusses on the atmospheric side of Speicher and presents a deep, mutable groover.

Meanwhile, JÜRGEN PAAPE’s WHISPER ECHO and RODEO unearth the series’ not-so-secret pop sensibilities – just as he did on Speicher 47 and Speicher 45 (featuring the notorious “Take That”). VOIGT &amp; VOIGT complete this 2x12” vinyl series profile in style, thanks to moody shuffle bouncer LEISE and the raucous, spiky banger BUM BUM BAR (feat. Chris Trance) – it’s a fitting conclusion to Speicher’s 100th release, coming from the duo that made a habit out of dropping legendary techno jams, from founding bangers “Korn/Roxy” (KOM EX 3) and “Vision 03” (KOM EX 5) to the most recent Speicher 99.</xhtml:div>

    <content xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" type="xhtml">
<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">For Danish native and much-revered producer/performer Rune Reilly KÖLSCH, Kompakt has proven the perfect home curating his music: with two critically acclaimed albums and a now classic run of solo instalments in our Speicher 12” series, he took his techno craftsmanship to new levels, setting it on a melodic, emotive and even autobiographical course - without loosing any of its punch and quirkiness. With new full-length 1989, Kölsch presents the final chapter of an elegant, anthemic album trilogy that started with an exploration of early childhood memories and influences on “1977” (KOM 276 CD 107) - the year of his birth – and continued on “1983” KOM 329 CD 122), a vibrant and picturesque journey sound tracking the year he travelled through Europe aged six.

“With 1989, we have arrived in my early teens”, Kölsch explains, “a difficult time in my life, where I mostly just remember the greyness of it all – grey feelings, grey weather and my own grey face.” Coinciding with the already challenging need to squeeze past the bottleneck of puberty, it was a time of seething family crisis – his parents were divorcing: “I would escape that grey world on my skateboard, listen to my Walkman as I explored the city around me. Music became my savior – the only way to overcome my family’s hard times. I found a soundtrack to my grey life, and suddenly there was color.” It’s why you’ll find several tracks on the album being named “grey” in different languages, and they all share this distinctly “Kölsch-esque” moment of epic melodies breaking through propulsive techno beats like the sun through stormy clouds – a musical twist that’s particularly impressive on album hit single PUSH, first heard on “Speicher 97” (KOM EX 97).

1989 marks also Kölsch’s intensified deployment of real-life orchestral sounds and the conitunation of his extremely fruitful collab with Gregor Schwellenbach: after contributing to predecessor album “1983”, the Kompakt affiliate, composer and multi-instrumentalist now conducts the Heritage Orchestra for tracks KHAIRO, LIATH (featuring a violin solo by Kate Robinson) and SERJI, the latter of which Schwellenbach co-wrote and co-produced. The 24-person Heritage Orchstra consists of violins, violas, cellos and double basses, adding the sweeping drama and organic, richly layered textures that only real strings can produce – a deeply humane tone that is set with the album’s opening recording of the orchestra tuning its instruments (which incidentally also incorporates a voice recording from 1989 of Rune Reilly’s grandfather Ludwig). Seeing Kölsch’s propensity for vocalist cameos on his albums (Trœls Abrahamsen on “1977”, Tomas Høffding and Waa Industry on “1983”), one shouldn’t be surprised to find beautiful cut IN BOTTLES, which features vocals written and performed by Aurora Aksnes.

After having produced such timeless tracks as “Loreley”, “Der Alte”, “DerDieDas” or “Cassiopeia”, expectations for new Kölsch material are expectably high – “there’s no doubting Kölsch’s mastery”, concluded Pitchfork when reviewing sophomore album “1983”, while Resident Advisor observed that “many electronic producers claim their albums have themes, but few can evoke a sense of faded nostalgia like Kölsch”, conjuring “moments of real magic”. 1989 certainly delivers on all of these fronts, engulfing the listener from the outset with its sonic coupling of classical composition and contemporary production – without sacrificing the impact on the dance floor: “despite its melancholy undercurrents”, Pitchfork finds Kölsch’s music to be looking “to dance for catharsis”. It’s how the Danish artist was able to inititate a head-turning run of global domination with his touring around the globe, remixes of Sven Väth, Flume and Coldplay, Ibiza commitments and his own BBC Radio 1 Residency radio show. Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac maybe put it simplest, noting “that man is sort of king when it comes to pianos and house music. He’s got a way of wrenching your emotions.”</xhtml:div>

Voigt’s output has found a home on iconic imprints such as Mille Plateaux or Harvest, but also helped kickstart younger labels like Kompakt offspring KX. <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">FANTASTIC TWINS, the solo artist formerly known as The Twins, has always carried an air of transmutability - not only in a name creating its own hall of mirrors, but also in a constantly fluctuating sound, from the first spoken word interludes recorded as The Truly Fantastic Dessagne Twins From Saint-Etienne (for the Pachanga Boys’ infamous “We Are Really Sorry” album) to myth-building solo releases on Hippie Dance and Optimo Music, as well as style-bending remixes for La Mverte Vs Capablanca, Moscoman and – most recently – fellow Hippie Dancer Rebolledo.

Following the echo-drenched “Holiday” on “A Very Nice Combinado Volume Dos”, the project from Julienne Dessagne has embarked on yet another transforming journey, leading to the latest outing with the well-suited title THE NEW YOU. Its four tracks prove Dessagne’s ongoing commitment to an open sound aesthetic that works the techno blueprint from the inside out, mutating from foreboding, post-industrial landscape to dazed interzone opera in a heartbeat.

Uncanny rave polaroids from last night’s ill-memorized peak floor flash up on opener SHAKE IT’s mental screen, while follow-up HEY tries to herd its nervously rushing percussion to no - albeit banging - avail. The title track slowly implodes in reverse, pitting Dessagne’s obsessing, molting vocals against a stubbornly no-wave-ish synth bassline and octave-hopping freeform keyboards blown to gaseous smithereens. Post-punk closer TIME SCIENCE kicks into motion with a confused diary entry turned subconscious commentary – while the psych guitar gently weeps all over the neatly arranged furniture. Welcome back, newcomers!</xhtml:div>

<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Inaugurated in the summer of 1999, our Total compilation series happens to be only slightly older than the 21st century itself – which makes TOTAL 17 the last instalment before the series hits adulthood. And indeed, the Total class of 2017 exudes a playful abundance few other compilations can match after 15+ years: label veterans and newcomers such as SUPERPITCHER feat. FANTASTIC TWINS, WEVAL, TOBIAS THOMAS &amp; MICHAEL MAYER, CHRIS KLOPFER, JUERGEN PAAPE, VOIGT &amp; VOIGT, MAX SCHOLPP and NU U ORCHESTRA provide some of the catchiest material the series has seen to date.

Like other Total compilations before it, TOTAL 17 is first and foremost a perfect opportunity to delve into our recent back catalogue, with the action-packed 2xCD version showcasing acclaimed highlights and personal favorites from LAURENT GARNIER, THE ORB, KÖLSCH, VERMONT, T.RAUMSCHMIERE, PATRICE BÄUMEL, DANNY DAZE and many more. The pièce de résistance, however, is the Total-exclusive content featured on both 2xCD and 2xLP editions – eight brandnew cuts from core Kompakt artists and selected label debutants that will please the collecting connoisseur as well as the ambitious dance floor activist.

THOMAS/MAYER’s 25 is a charming, bass-happy belter with a distinct Forever Sweet vibe, while SUPERPITCHER teams up with FANTASTIC TWINS for hazy dance floor ballad IN MY HEAD. Meanwhile, Kompakt’s disco king of the hearts JÜRGEN PAAPE presents dreamy anthem ALWAYS DISKO, manipulating the space-time continuum with reversed vocals and plenty of ballroom glitz. Dutch duo WEVAL indulge in their expectedly brilliant beatmaking with the slow-burning, emotional METAZOA, grooving nicely alongside the heartwarming neo-folk house of CHRIS KLOPFER’s ASHAMED (RAQUET &amp; STETTER EDIT) and MAX SCHOLPP’s hypnotic late-night electronica THE DREAM. Jörg Burger helms the NU U ORCHESTRA together with Julienne Dessagne of Saschienne and Fantastic Twins fame, resulting in the flamboyant, guitar-infused pop jam AMBROSIA. And VOIGT &amp; VOIGT return to their personal brand of psychedelic trance techno minimalism on TRIBUTE TO A GREEK GOD – a fittingly idiosyncratic contribution to the merry band of stand-out tracks collected on TOTAL 17.</xhtml:div>

<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">• STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION of 39 copies – incl.: ultra rare MAGAZINE 1 (Cologne Tape - Render), original pressing! MAGAZINE 16 LP + digital album download code.

This time the limited Edition supplement is an original copy of the first MAGAZINE record from 2010, which is also the first Cologne Tape release. Some years ago there was a warehouse find of 39 original copies but only now alongside the awaited Cologne Tape Album it makes sense to put it on the market in this special form.

The totality of the many in one: Cologne Tape, an on and off gathering band from all over the world, did not call their second album "Welt" without reason. The collective incorporates the nucleus of the label Magazine and consists of the artists Ada, Barnt, Jens-Uwe Beyer, Jörg Burger, John Harten, Philipp Janzen, Mario Katz, John Stanier and Axel Willner. All members live scattered between Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg. They meet rarely and abruptly, but each of them always has the feeling that something relevant needs to be done. The ensemble’s name represents a city and the musical recordings that are made in it.
Their first release, "Render", marked the start of the label Magazine in 2010 and found the way into DJ sets by famed artists like Dixon with music, which does not necessarily have the dancefloor in mind. Subsequently, little, absolutely sublime pieces of Cologne Tape appeared in the public. Sometimes in the middle of a Magazine mix for London's online magazine Dummy, or on compilations like "My Heart's In My Hand, And My Hand Is Pierced And My Hand's In The Bag, And My Heart Is Caught" a double-vinyl sampler for an exhibition by British video artist Phil Collins.
And now, after six years of more or less overwhelming silence, "Welt" arrives and brings the world eight musical arrangements, all of which answer to the same name and only differ numerically in their title. They were performed and recorded at the Dumbo Studios in Cologne as part of a happening, during which the nine Cologne Tape members gathered in a room to play a solemn concert for themselves without a given frame. Unfiltered emotions, which were later, refined with drums and synth sounds by John Stanier and Axel Willner and then arranged into a dramatic story arc under the direction of Jens-Uwe Beyer. Furthermore some of the recordings feature friends of the collective such as Mexican artist Rebolledo, the guitarist Burkhard Mönnich and the singer Isis Lace, who all happened to be close by and joined the band spontaneously during in their musical ritual.
Now the recordings of their time without time will see the light of the day. They all tell – together and alone – stories of deeply felt musical experiences, which quickly become profound experiences too for those who listen to Cologne Tape, when they play the grand piano, synthesizer, vibraphone, organ, drums, guitar and more while celebrating a freewheeling ceremony. Panoramic music that enables the listener to enter a world of sounds and rhythms, which all reflect in depth what Cologne Tape is as a band and a piece of art.</xhtml:div>

The spontaneous, organic vibe and sample artistry of the album is reflected in three distinct reworks from highly respected Kompakt mainstays THE FIELD, DAVE DK and JÖRG BURGER - all of them informed with surprising twists and displaying a clear lineage to the source material.

THE FIELD's remix of 9 ELMS OVER RIVER ENO takes the original's percussive part and unfolds it to a swirling, tropical epic that alludes as much to The Orb's multifaceted sound collages as it does to the hypnotic, looping flow of The Field's own output. A perfect way for Weval to head into a new year that will see them grow even more, with upcoming live performances at Sonar Istanbul, Primavera Sound Festival and DGTL Amsterdam already lined up.

<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Following their much-acclaimed surprise debut album VERMONT from 2014, Motor City Drum Ensemble’s Danilo Plessow and Innervisions' Marcus Worgull reunite for more synth daydreaming on the suitably titled “II”. The new outing continues where the first full-length left off, strolling further down the luminous and undulating path that the duo turned into, influenced in equal measures by kosmische, krautrock, minimal wave and synth soundtracks.

This latest batch of instrumental cuts opens with the strictly balearic vibe of NORDERNEY, a softly swinging, light-footed recording with a keen sense for structure. Featuring a guest performance from Robbert Van Der Bildt (aka Kaap) on guitar, it’s a telling starting point for the album that - similar to Vermont’s self-titled debut - successfully navigates between economic, careful studio arrangements and playful, incidental exploration further pushing into jam session territory. Van Der Bildt's guitar returns on the plucky, curious UFER, where Vermont showcase a renewed sense for jazz-like improvisation - same as on the cuts DSCHUNA, CHANANG and WENIK, which also include contributions from Dermot O'Mahony and Tadhg Murphy on strings.

Still, Vermont's synth contraptions remain the album's main attraction, with the extensive array of gear encompassing an entire panopticon of analog bling - from Arp Oddysey and Moog Prodigy to Fender Rhodes, Juno and Prophet, list-studying gear heads will find lots to drool upon. Consequently, tracks like CHEMTRAILS, UNRUH or GEBIRGE err on the machine side of things, expertly interweaving arpeggiated sequences for maximum atmospheric effect. Foreboding, slightly menacing synth motives as on SKORBUT or CHEMTRAILS are perfectly balanced with the casual ambient of HALLO VON DER ANDEREN SEITE and the nostalgic warmth of DEMUT - while the gentle push of the masterful KI-BOU even carries a whiff of classic deep house, linking the Vermont project to Plessow and Worgull’s main careers as dance floor movers and shakers.

Continually intriguing, immersive and texturally rich, each one of Vermont's new pieces betray the experience, precision and determination of the producers involved - while opening up Worgull and Plessow'a vocabulary for patient experimentation and subtle discoveries. A musical treat for synth aficionados - and everyone else, if you ask us.</xhtml:div>

PACHANGA BOYS AND SOLOMUN REMIXES

Just a few weeks after Michael Mayer released his third full length, the passionate and personal ‚&amp;’, the album’s second single 'For You’ was released with three new edits. Due to overwhelming demand, we have pressed it up on a very limited edition 12" vinyl only available on KOMPAKT.FM and in our record store. Solomun is the first to rework the love story sung by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip/The 2 Bears. The track is transformed into a morning and night version. The Dynamic boss puts his well known vigour and emotional stamp on both versions. Whilst the morning version builds up slowly towards a gleamy break, the night version works on a more dramatic side of the song. On the flip side, Pachanga Boys’ reimagining of the song takes the listener on a shimmering and festive trip from start to finish. Bright and epic, stormy with a pinch of darkness or euphoric with a certain swing, all three takes uncover new sounds and atmospheres doing justice to the romance of the original.

Again a powerful combination of established and upcoming artists, this latest offering shares the predecessor’s thirst for adventure: after opening with the dustbowl belter LA RACE from PAULOR – a raw, slightly psychotic rocker spiritually akin to the beat contraptions of label head Rebolledo, we’re quickly shuffling towards PACHANGA BOYS’ hypnotic NEW BLAZER EDIT of the excellent ROMAN FLÜGEL cut DEO, followed by the echo-drenched vocal jam MOTHER FUCKING TWINS from FANTASTIC TWINS (aka The Twins). Danish luminary KASPER BJØRKE presents a soaring disco anthem with CHOIR OF YOUNG RAVERS that will bathe any dance floor in starlight, while Mexican duo ZOMBIES IN MIAMI closes the dance with the trippy FLASHBACK MANTRA, a cultist ritual turned neo-tribal club incantation.</xhtml:div>

<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Our TOTAL compilation series hardly needs an introduction: we rummage through the Kompakt releases to select our favorites from the past year that reflect our best and unsaid tracks, compiled and packaged as a cohesive whole. For TOTAL 16, the 2xCD and digital track listing features 25 prominent cuts from artists such as THE FIELD, WEVAL, REX THE DOG, TERRANOVA, HUNTER/GAME, FRANKEY &amp; SANDRINO, JOHN TEJADA, BLOND:ISH or PATRICE BÄUMEL. On top, TOTAL 16 includes eight exclusive tracks which happen to make up the 2xLP vinyl track listing. What you have is a dynamic assortment and comprehensive profile of Kompakt’s current label portfolio, including both newcomers and veteran producers in peak form.

Keeping up a good old TOTAL tradition, we also planted brandnew material from core artists and friends – check out exclusive tracks such as MICHAEL MAYER’s aptly named ACTION, an absolutely rinsing acid cracker, or MATIAS AGUAYO’s stellar KOMM, sitting comfortably among his best and most stirring work to date. Meanwhile, JÜRGEN PAAPE drops silky, atmospheric synth pads on EDEN and THE MODERNIST teams up with Hot Chip’s JOE GODDARD for the pop-infused THE PRICE OF LOVE. Another highlight is the debut release from exciting newcomer LAKE TURNER: BEACON FIELDS is a misty-eyed, melancholic piece focussing on exquisite electronic textures and sweeping melodies.

As with previous TOTAL installments, we collect these exclusives on a separate 2xLP edition, but like to add a handful of cuts that can only be found on the vinyl version – for TOTAL 16, these include ALEX UNDER’s LLAMAN A LA PUERTA, a densely layered, slow-paced synth jam that makes for a inspired detour from the propulsive, lean beats the Spanish producer has become known for. SWEET 100 present a masterfully crafted study in hypnotic minimalism on SIX, while VOIGT &amp; VOIGT hark back to the pounding, sensual abrasiveness of early Auftrieb releases on DENKEN SIE LAUT, crossbred with the tongue-in-cheek gloom of the brothers’ later, more psychedelic offerings.</xhtml:div>

It’s a postulating, energetic, but also elegant release, confidently claiming its well-earned stake on the floor – just the right stuff for KX.</xhtml:div>
